Community Design for Recovery

Community Design for Recovery

“Beauty will save the world.”  F. Dostoevsky

Despite recent challenges, an attractive community can lift our spirits and help revive local activity.

The above quote may seem simplistic but rings true for me.  As an advocate for community improvements, I personally realize there will be even more changes and adjustments ahead.  Yet it's been said in many ways that design and architecture tell us about the kind of life we want to see around us.

Most of us involved with local planning issues (e.g. Municipal Design Review Network participants) are fortunate to live in attractive towns.  Our towns’ beauty still has the power to engage and inspire us. But to maintain such opportunities, we will have to remain focused on long term improvements and quality development.

In the meantime, we can feel better and  improve our lives by enjoying the greenspace in our neighborhoods.

Take care,

John Hedrick
